What a weekly pool service visit includes
A typical residential visit runs about 30 to 45 minutes. If the pool has been struggling, or weather has recently impacted it, we stay longer or return between visits as needed. Our responsibility is to get the pool back under control, not just to check a box and leave.
Every visit follows the same core checklist:
- Skim the surface and remove leaves, pollen, and debris
- Brush the walls, steps, and tile line
- Vacuum the floor as needed based on debris load and pool setup
- Empty the skimmer baskets and pump basket
- Backwash or rinse the filter when pressure rises beyond its normal operating range
- Test water chemistry and dose the pool accordingly
- Walk the equipment pad and inspect the pump, filter, and visible plumbing
That checklist is the baseline. When conditions require more attention, more time is spent. If a return visit is needed to fully resolve an issue, we handle it.
The chemistry we test, and why it matters
Most pool services in Austin test two things: pH and free chlorine. That is enough to keep a pool from looking obviously wrong in the short term, but it does not protect the pool over time.
We test a more complete set of parameters every week because long-term damage does not show up immediately.
- pH. Controls how acidic or basic the water is. When pH drifts, swimmer comfort drops and chlorine becomes less effective.
- Free chlorine. The active sanitizer. Too low and algae moves in. The correct level depends on cyanuric acid, so we manage chlorine as part of a system rather than targeting a single generic number.
- Calcium hardness. Water that is too soft damages plaster and metal components. Water that is too hard leaves scale on tile, heaters, and salt cells. We maintain the correct range for your pool.
- Total alkalinity. Stabilizes pH. When alkalinity is off, pH becomes difficult to control and requires constant correction.
- Cyanuric acid (stabilizer). Protects chlorine from being destroyed by sunlight. Too little and chlorine burns off within hours. Too much reduces its effectiveness unless chlorine levels are adjusted accordingly.
We manage these parameters together, not individually. That includes maintaining proper chlorine levels relative to stabilizer using a ratio-based approach rather than relying on generic ranges.
The reason this matters is simple: problems caused by poor chemistry do not show up immediately. They show up months later as scaling, surface damage, or recurring algae. By the time the symptom appears, the cost has already been incurred.
Four weekly service tiers
All four tiers include the same chemistry testing and core checklist. The difference is how much time is spent on cleaning and how the visit is structured around your pool.
Chemistry Only
We handle all water balancing and supply all chemicals. You handle cleaning.
Chemistry Plus
Chemistry, equipment inspection, skimmer and pump basket cleaning, robot maintenance, and filter backwashing when needed.
Full Service
Everything in Chemistry Plus, along with weekly netting, brushing, and vacuuming.
VIP
Full Service plus enhanced LSI monitoring for long-term surface and equipment protection, and front-of-queue priority on repairs.

Why we include chemicals in your flat rate
Our monthly rate includes all standard chemicals. This is intentional, and it changes the incentives in a way that benefits the pool.
In a model where chemicals are billed separately, the service provider is paid more when more chemicals are used. That creates a natural incentive to overuse them.
Our model removes that entirely.
- If we use too little, the pool degrades and we have to return and fix it at our own cost
- If we use too much, we are wasting our own money
- The only outcome that makes sense for us is to keep the pool precisely balanced
That alignment matters. It means the safest and most stable condition for your pool is also the most efficient outcome for our business.
It also means:
- You are never sourcing chemicals yourself
- Your monthly bill does not fluctuate week to week based on chemical usage
- Every visit is completed with the materials needed to do the job correctly
Trusted by Hundreds of Pool Owners
"I've been using PhD Pool Care for about 2.5 years. They're always on time, keep our water looking clear blue, and have been so helpful when I need troubleshooting or repairs. My technician even offers advice beyond the paid service. Great value."
"PhD Pool Care has been absolutely wonderful this year! They have been extremely thorough in cleanings and prompt in communications. I have been using them for both chemical only and full service depending upon my ability to service my own pool. I highly recommend them for any and all services."
Why we do not require contracts
We do not require contracts because we do not need them.
If a company requires a long-term agreement to keep you as a customer, that typically reflects uncertainty about whether you would choose to stay on your own.
Our service runs month to month.
If you are ever unhappy, you can cancel immediately and any unused portion of your service will be refunded. There is no penalty and no friction to leave.
Our position and our goal is simple: if we do our job well, you will stay.
Common questions
Are chemicals really included in the flat rate?
Yes. Chlorine, shock, pH adjusters, alkalinity adjustments, calcium adjustments, stabilizer, and salt for saltwater pools are included.
The only exceptions are situations that fall outside normal maintenance, such as new accounts with severe algae from prolonged neglect or metals introduced from well water or previous service providers. Those are quoted separately, and always explained before work begins.
Do you serve commercial pools, HOAs, or short-term rentals?
Yes. We service HOA pools, apartment complexes, hotels, and short-term rentals.
The chemistry and core process remain the same. Commercial accounts include additional compliance requirements, reporting, and access coordination.
Can you do one-time cleanings or chemistry-only service?
Yes. Common cases include event preparation, real estate listings, and chemistry-only service for owners who prefer to handle cleaning themselves.
We also commonly manage chemistry for newly built or replastered pools during their initial startup period, which is a sensitive process that should only be left to experienced professionals.
Can someone look at my pool before I sign up?
Yes. One of our managers can perform an equipment evaluation and walk-through.
What happens if my pool turns green?
If you are already a weekly client, we address it as part of service and continue working on the problem between visits until it is resolved.
If you are not yet a client, we provide a one-time green-to-clean quote and transition to weekly service once the pool is stable.
Can I text my technician directly?
All communication is encouraged to be routed through our office.
This ensures nothing is missed, everything is documented, and your request is handled quickly even if your technician is in the field or unavailable.
How do you put together a quote?
We gather a few details about your pool and equipment and provide a service quote, usually the same day.
You can call, text, or submit a request through our contact page, and we will take it from there.
